IBSTPI Code of Ethics

The IBSTPI® Code of Ethics for Learning and Development Professionals sets out the ethical principles and responsibilities that guide L&D practice across roles, organizational settings, populations, and technologies, including artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies. It supports ethical reflection and decision-making, establishes shared expectations for professional practice, and provides a structured process for applying the Code to new, ambiguous, or conflicting situations.

The Code is organized into three components:

* Layers—Five interconnected layers of responsibility (self, others, organizations, the profession, and society), considered together rather than ranked
* Principles—Specific areas of ethical practice within each layer (20 total)
* Ethical responsibilities—The commitments and actions that put each principle into practice (59 total)
