We are excited to announce a series of Competency Webinars sponsored by IBSTPI. These sessions will focus on a variety of topics related to competencies, aiming to engage a diverse audience and foster valuable discussions. These events are intended for researchers and practitioners in higher education, K-12 education, and public or private sector industries or roles focused on learning and development, training, or other related fields. 

General Information:

  • Each webinar will be offered twice: once during mid-day (11 AM, 12 PM, or 1 PM Eastern) and once in the evening (8:30 PM Eastern) and will focus on brief content sharing with an emphasis on discussion. 
  • Dates will be announced each month with most events taking place the final week of the month from February through August. 
  • The topics will address a range of themes, from defining competencies to exploring dispositions, pedagogical models, workplace applications, and more.
  • Presenters will be IBSTPI board members and leaders in the field. 

Topics Include:

  1. Competencies: How Do We Define “Competency”?
    Audience: Open to all
    Focus: Definitions, the role of “KSA”/“KSD,” and context-neutral vs. context-specific competencies.
  2. Dispositions (or Attitudes) – Part 1: Defining & Discussing
    Audience: Open to all
    Focus: Defining dispositional competencies, their relationship with knowledge/skills, and approaches to fostering/assessing them.
  3. Dispositions – Part 2: Fit with Competency Sets
    Audience: Open to all
    Focus: Exploring connections with IBSTPI and other competency sets, and ideas for further development.
  4. Competencies in the Workplace
    Audience: Corporate/Government/Non-Profit
    Focus: Fostering, utilizing, and evaluating competencies in the workplace, with recommendations for job applicants and higher education.
  5. Competency-Based Pedagogical Approaches
    Audience: Open to all
    Focus: Exploring pedagogical approaches, DEAP repositories, and potential for larger OER repositories.
  6. Competency-Based Education Curricular Models
    Audience: Higher Education/K12
    Focus: Reviewing curricular models, supports, and barriers to implementation.
  7. Competency-Based Assessment Approaches
    Audience: Open to all
    Focus: Assessment strategies, innovative ideas, and OER repository possibilities.
